Origin of JISHAM

After Reconstructive Microsrugery began at Jubilee Mission Hospital in 2007, it remained a less known specaility and required some awareness creation. As Cleft lip and Palate Surgery was being developed as a speciality unit, the rest of the work encompassing most of Plastic Surgery was grouped under JISHAM - an acronym for Jubilee Institute of Surgery for HAND, AESTHETIC and MICROSURGERY. This unit was developed with a specific goal on improving quality of care. JISHAM presently is located on the second floor of Jubilee Hridyalaya. The unit has 20 beds and 9 deluxe rooms with the convenience of the Hyperbaric Unit being located wihtin the same floor. The outpatient clinic of this unit functions at Golden Jubilee Block - ground floor.

Hand surgery

Hand surgery deals with surgical and non-surgical treatment of problems in the hand or upper extremity including injury and infection. This Hand surgery unit is a surgical speciality practice, dedicated to provide state-of-the-art evaluation, treatment, and follow-up care to patients with problems of the upper extremity and hand.

In this Tertiary referral unit, we perform a wide variety of operations such as fracture repairs, releases, transfer and repairs of tendons and reconstruction of injuries and congenital defects

Plastic surgeons here are expertise to handle traumatic hand and digit amputations that require a "replant" operation (microsurgical reattachment of amputated digits and limbs)

Our team also perform microsurgical reconstruction of soft tissues and bone, nerve reconstruction, and surgery to improve function in paralysed upper limbs (Brachial plexus injuries)

Microsurgery & Lowerlimb Reconstruction

Microsurgery is a surgery requiring an operating microscope. Developments in the field of plastic surgery now allow reconstruction of missing tissues by transferring a piece of tissue to the reconstruction site and reconnecting successively smaller blood vessels and nerves (typically 1 mm in diameter). Reconstructive Microsurgery in JISHAM has a dedicated team & operation room in the main operation theatre complex with Carl Zeiss Operating Microscope.

Revascularization is the restoration of perfusion to a body part or organ that has suffered ischemia following trauma [ Folder 1]

Free tissue transfer is vascular detachment of an isolated region of body (eg, skin, fat, muscle, bone) & transfer of that tissue to another region of the body by microvascular expertise [Folder 2]
