Jubilee Centre for Medical Research (JCMR) is a DSIR recognized research centre established by the Jubilee Mission Hospital Trust. The research activities in the Jubilee institutions are now coordinated by JCMR. This research centre undertakes and promotes research projects funded by governmental agencies, NGO’s and those leading to the award of degrees like MD/MS/DNB/DM/PhD etc.

The primary objective of the Research wing is to oversee all undergraduate and postgraduate research and thesis protocols and faculty research projects and suggest improvements. Workshops and short courses will also be conducted for postgraduate students and faculty in various aspects of research methodology.

There will, soon, be a Central Research Laboratory which can be used by all departments. Dr. D. M. Vasudevan, former Professor of Biochemistry, Principal of Medical Colleges and winner of Dr. B.C. Roy award, is the Director of Jubilee centre for Medical Research.

History of the Department

The research department of Jubilee Mission Medical College & Research Institute was functioning since August 2010. Even before that various faculty members were doing research based on funded and personal research projects. In 2014 these research activities were coordinated under JCMR.

Dr. D.M.Vasudevan, well known Scientist, Dr. B.C.Roy Award recipient and Biochemistry author took charge as Director-Research of JCMR in April 2014. Four thousand square feet area was furnished for the purpose and a good number of sophisticated equipments are purchased.

JCMR is focussed to conduct funded research by faculty as well as scientists who will be appointed in the research centre. In due course it is expected to be a medical research centre of national importance. JCMR will also be a research centre of different Universities for research leading to the award of degrees like MPhil, Ph. D etc. Students from different Universities and Colleges have done part of their dissertation in this Centre during these years.

Research Centre is carrying out research activities in Basic Sciences and interdisciplinary areas apart from Medical Research. Thrust areas of Research are as follows.

  • Biochemistry, Microbiology and Virology
  • Epidemiology Public health and Occupational health
  • Clinical Medicine and Nursing
  • Histology Cytology and Immunohistochemistry,
  • Pharmacology and Ethnomedicine
  • Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt of India has recognised this as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) Vide letter-. F No. 14/665/2014-TU-V dt 4.3.2015

    This centre have Ethical Committee for research on human samples and on animals. The Animal House is registered with CPCSEA, Govt of India vide N0. 1811/PO/Re/S/15/CPCSEA dt 9.6.2015. The Small Animal Research Facility is managed by a a team of three full time staff including a Veterinary surgeon. Research Projects using small animals are also undertaken. Dr. S. Ranjith, Additional Professor, Dept of Anatomy is the officer in-charge of Animal House.
